The League of Women Voters and the Washington County Public Affairs Forum are sponsoring a virtual debate between mayoral candidates for the 2020 election of Beaverton mayor 7-7:45 p.m. on April 23rd.

The participants are incumbent Mayor Denny Doyle and City Council persons Cate Arnold and Lacey Beaty.

How to Participate

For those who have not used ZOOM before, it is a way of connecting to people and events through your computer or smart phone. To join these debates, click on this link or copy and paste it into your browser, follow the instructions, and you will be part of the debate audience https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81066505737

This is not a prerecorded event. You will be participating with the candidates in a live, on-line debate. A couple things to keep in mind:

  • You can join the debates anytime between 7-8:30 p.m. When you join, you will see a picture of a microphone and camera on the left, bottom of your screen. Click on the microphone and camera to make sure they have a red line through them. That means you can neither be seen nor heard. Later, if you are a member and want to ask a question, click on the microphone again, the red line will disappear and everyone participating will be able to hear your question.
  • Only Forum and League members can ask questions. As a viewer you can click “participant” at the bottom of the screen, then click the “raise hand” icon and the moderators will see that you want to ask a question.

Unfortunately since this sponsored by two privately run organizations, only members of those organizations can ask questions.
